1. Wall hanging boxes were commonly made for outport kitchens, to hold all manner of small objects.

2. Boats manned by Witnesses were visiting all the outports of Newfoundland, the Norwegian coast into the Arctic, the islands of the Pacific, and the ports of Southeast Asia.

3. These efficient companies needed fewer workers, so about 300 fishing villages, or outports, were abandoned by their residents between 1954 and 1975 as part of a Canadian government-sponsored program known as the Resettlement.

4. Albumen prints of Newfoundland taken by French photographer Paul-Émile Miot between 1857 and 1859 give us important early views of St. John's as well as various French fishing outports of the time and document the French presence on the island.
